Jeff Cooper, MPT
Jeff Cooper has been a resident of the Conejo Valley since 1976, attending elementary through high school in Westlake Village, CA. Jeff now lives in Moorpark with his wife and four children. Always fascinated with human behavior and brain function, he graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Interested in fitness, athletics, and wellness, he pursued his master’s degree in physical therapy graduating with honors from California State University, Northridge. Jeff Cooper has been in the physical therapy industry for 20 years working in environments spanning aquatic therapy to in-patient rehabilitation; but he has spent the majority of his career in out-patient orthopedics treating men and women of all ages. Jeff Cooper is the leader of Recooperation Physical Therapy and has one very specific business model: “THE PATIENT COMES FIRST”. Passionate about physical therapy, Jeff isn’t just the owner of Recooperation PT; he is also in the clinic everyday treating a variety of patients from seniors to high school athletes, from working class individuals to weekend warriors.
Jane Maryoung, PT, M.Sc.
Jane Maryoung was born in Trinidad, an island in the West Indies. After graduating from high school and secretarial college, Jane went to Whittier College in Whittier, California, where she obtained a B.A. in Physical Education/Pre-Physical Therapy. Next, Jane moved to Dallas, Texas and attended the University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas/University of Texas Southwestern Medical School of Allied Health Sciences – Physical Therapy. Here she obtained her B.Sc. and Certificate in Physical Therapy in 1974.
Upon graduating, Jane moved to Connecticut where she worked as a physical therapist for the first time at Norwalk Hospital. After working there for three years, she relocated to California and worked at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Burbank. Her next move was to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, where she worked until 1985. In October 1985, Jane changed locations to work in an Orthopedic outpatient practice where she worked for a group of Orthopedic surgeons in Thousand Oaks for 26 years. Here she had the opportunity to focus on musculoskeletal conditionsmdealing with patients who had a variety of problems such as low back pain, neck stiffness, and shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle problems.
Finally, in September of 2011, Jane has made her last move to Recooperation Physical Therapy here in Newbury Park, where she is looking forward to continuing her career in helping patients with all of their physical therapy needs.
April Spina, DPT
April completed her undergraduate degree in Health Science and Sociology at Boston College. While at Boston College, she competed on the Varsity Women’s Soccer Team for four years. She received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California then went on to complete a year-long post-professional orthopedic residency, advancing her clinical skills with mentor-ship and training from expert clinicians. She is an active member of the APTA Orthopedic Section and is APTA Board Certified in Orthopedics. She is also an APTA Certified Clinical Instructor and a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Since 2006, April has worked with both the United States Men and Women’s National soccer team, as well as the Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA. She has a passion for working with the pediatric population and athletes. Originally from Canoga Park, she now resides in Newbury Park with her husband and two children and enjoys hiking, Pilates, and spending time with her family.
Cole Olmon, DPT
Cole Olmon was born and raised in the Conejo Valley, where he attended Westlake High School. He lettered in both swimming and waterpolo in high school. Cole attended California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks where he received his B.S. in Exercise Science and Sports Medicine. After graduation he married his college sweetheart, Samantha. Cole then spent two years as the office manager for Recooperation Physical Therapy, while also coaching water polo for South Coast Aquatics, and was the strength and conditioning coach for the aquatics program at Westlake High School. In 2016, Cole received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California and has returned to Recooperation Physical Therapy to provide high quality physical therapy services. He is passionate about helping individuals reach their goals and encourages healthy, active lifestyles. He enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter (Lyla), and black lab (Sophie), as well as wakeboarding, waterskiing, cycling, snowboarding, and enjoying the great outdoors.
Gavin Smith, DPT
Gavin was born and raised in Thousand Oaks and is an alumni of Thousand Oaks High School. He completed his undergraduate studies at UC Santa Barbara and then relocated to the Pacific Northwest to pursue a doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Washington. He has worked in numerous rehab settings throughout Washington, Oregon and California, but he is happy to be back in his hometown amongst old friends and family. Gavin’s interest in physical therapy developed through a lifelong passion for personal fitness, healthy living, and preventative care. He is currently pursuing post-doctoral training to achieve advanced certification in manual therapy and to achieve board certification as an orthopedic specialist. He is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys spending his free time rock climbing, trail running, mountain biking, gardening, and playing guitar.
Karen Nirenberg has joined our staff as the in-house insurance biller. She has extensive experience in the field after working for a Chiropractic office led by Dr. Terry Schroeder (US Olympic Water Polo coach), as well as a Physical Therapist for the past 16 years. Karen was born and raised in Malibu, California, and graduated from Santa Monica High School. After attending Santa Monica City College, she started her career in insurance billing at Santa Monica Hospital. In 1987, she and her family moved from Santa Monica to Thousand Oaks where she raised 2 daughters who both later graduated from Thousand Oaks High School. She currently still resides in Thousand Oaks with her husband, Kirk and their dogs, Daisy and Little Guy. Karen is very knowledgeable and savvy in the complicated world of medical billing, and she is a welcome addition to our staff.
Brittany Jonsson is a native to Newbury Park and graduated from Thousand Oaks High School in 2009. She went to Sacramento State and got a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies with a concentration in Public Relations. Brittany loves to golf with her husband and go on walks with her dog, Sadie. She is the welcoming face when you walk through the door.
Caitlin Kilbourne is a Conejo Valley native who is passionate about health and wellness. She is a 2016 graduate of California State University, Northridge where she earned her B.S. degree in Kinesiology (cum laude) while minoring in Psychology and Political Science. Caitlin loves going to the beach, hiking with her dog and reading books. She loves being in a field that allows her to help others lead their healthiest lives.
Kurt Strengier is a Thousand Oaks native and graduated from Thousand Oaks High School in 2011. He now is a Kinesiology major at California State University, Northridge and pursing a career in physical therapy. He enjoys being outdoors, going surfing, hiking and Frisbee tossing.
Savannah Carpenter is a Newbury Park native and graduated from Oaks Christian. She graduated from Southeast Missouri State University where she majored in Exercise Science and minored in Nutrition. She also loves to play softball and was a Division 1 softball player at her college.
Mariah Mercado is a senior at California Lutheran University majoring in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Health Professions. She is currently running cross country and track while also being a peer tutor for ALLIES in STEM. She loves going to Disneyland, eating out in the streets of Los Angeles and going back home to see her family.
Brian Alex was born in Woodland Hills and he graduated from Crespi High School. He is now an Exercise Science major with an emphasis in Human Performance at California Lutheran University. He will be graduating in 2018. His hobbies are wake boarding and rugby.
